A close encounter with American hip-hop artist Common has left one lucky fan speechless and voiceless from screaming her lungs out.

Common brought 34-year-old Pretoria woman, Slindile Zulu, on stage during his performance at the fifth DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival on Saturday at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, in Midrand, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

The 45-year-old heart-throb serenaded Zulu over a glass of wine, giving her two kisses on her cheeks and one on her neck.

As an added bonus, Common also let her wipe his sweat with a towel.

“It’s was magical. I’m still trying to clam down from that experience.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Common bringing me on stage,” Zulu told Sowetan yesterday.

“It was all unbelievable and everything went by so fast. I froze for a couple of minutes.

“I’ve always been a fan, now that I’m Mrs Common, it’s even more. I took the towel to church even,” added Zulu.

Not even torrential down pours could dampen the fans’ high spirit at the festival.

Just before DJ Black Coffee took to the stage at 4:30pm, the festival hit a delay as mother nature had other plans.

Hosts Nomzamo Mbatha and Thomas Msengana took to the stage after kwaito group Tkzee had performed to caution the crowd to run for cover as a huge storm was fast approaching.

LED screens around the outdoor festival went dark for about 15 minutes, with the warning message: “Storm and lightning expected shortly. Please seek safe shelter,” as heavy rains wrecked havoc on the venue.

As soon as it stopped, Black Coffee was a ray of sunshine as he played to a large rain-soaked crowd.

Although the festival ran behind schedule, by the time Thandiswa Mazwai and Common hit the stage, it was as if it never rained.
